We are halfway through the two-day Teams competition at the European Women Bowling Championships 2024. Today, 14 teams participated in a three-game qualification round, each aiming to achieve the highest possible scores to gain an advantage before tomorrow's final three games in the Team qualifiers.
The top four teams will advance to the Team event semifinals.
After the initial three-game block, the leading teams are Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and England.
Sweden's team, consisting of Anna Andersson (699 pins), Nora Johansson (643 pins), Josefin Hermansson (635 pins), Jenny Wegner (615 pins), and Hanna Engberg (585 pins), achieved a total pinfall of 3177 (an average of 211.8), securing the lead after three games.
Finland's team, just eight pins behind, featured Peppi Konsteri (717 pins), Ani Juntunen (660 pins), Sanna Oksanen (608 pins), Jenni Heino (606 pins), and Essi Pakarinen (578 pins), with a total score of 3169 (an average of 211.3), placing them second.
Denmark's Mika Glud Guldbæk (675 pins), Maria Bak Gerding (667 pins), Camilla Keller (642 pins), Cecilie J. M. Dam (631 pins), and Megan Gales Dicay (539 pins) scored a total pinfall of 3154 (an average of 210.3), finishing third.
England's team, comprising Rachel Cox (676 pins), Hayley Russell (648 pins), Lorna Scott (617 pins), Vicki Harman (599 pins), and Hanna Ailes (595 pins), achieved a total score of 3135 (an average of 209), placing them fourth.
With another three games to be played tomorrow in the EWC 2024 Teams qualifiers, everything can still change.
With three qualification games remaining, Singles event gold medalist Nora Johansson is convincingly in the lead of the All-Event category with 4902 pins (233.4 average). Germany's Franziska Czech is in second with 4770 pins, while Slovenia's Eva Krafogel is in third with 4750 pins. The top 24 players in the All-Event category will advance to the Masters event.
