Sweden Wins Teams Event, Johansson takes All-Event Gold at EWC 2024

The two-day Teams competition concluded today at the European Women Bowling Championships 2024.


The top four teams - Sweden, Finland, Germany, and England advanced to the Team event semifinals after six-game qualification round.


In the first semifinal, No. 1 seed Finland, featuring Peppi Konsteri (717 pins), Ani Juntunen (660 pins), Sanna Oksanen (608 pins), Jenni Heino (606 pins), and Essi Pakarinen (578 pins), with a total score of 3169, defeated No. 4 seed Germany, consisting of Janin Ribguth (175 pins), Saskia Malz (161 pins), Nadine Laub (160 pins) and Franziska Czech (187 pins), who scored 909 pins total, and advanced to the finals of Teams event.


In the second semifinal, No. 2 seed Sweden, consisting of Anna Andersson (223 pins), Nora Johansson (196 pins), Josefin Hermansson (234 pins), Jenny Wegner (210 pins), and Hanna Engberg (234 pins), achieved a total pinfall of 1097, securing the place in the final against Team England, comprising Rachel Cox (148 pins), Hayley Russell (181 pins), Lorna Scott (241 pins), Vicki Harman (244 pins), and Hanna Ailes (189 pins), who achieved a total score of 1003.


In the final, Sweden were better in the end, claiming victory against Finland 1056-1032, earning Sweden's second EWC 2024 gold after Nora Johansson's success in Singles event.


The end of the Teams event meant the end of EWC 2024 qualification. Singles event gold medalist Nora Johansson took the All-Event category gold with 5596 pins (233.2 average). Germany's Franziska Czech won silver with 5468 pins (227.8 avg.), while Slovenia's Eva Krafogel acheived bronze with 5446 pins (226.9 avg.). The top 24 players in the All-Event category advanced to the Masters event which will start tomorrow at 9 a.m. CET.
