Top Performances Shine at 2024 World Youth Championships Singles Semifinals


Sweden's Carl Eklund at 2024 World Youth Championships

On Friday night, the Fiesta Bowling Center in Incheon, Korea, was buzzing with excitement as the top 16 athletes in the Boys' Singles event competed, followed by the semifinals in both the Boys' and Girls' Singles events at the 2024 World Youth Championships.


2024 World Youth Championships Boys' Match-Play Round Overview


In the match-play rounds, the qualifiers were divided into two groups of eight. They engaged in seven round-robin matches, where each win earned 3 points, and a draw netted 1 point. The top two players from each group advanced to the semifinals based on their accumulated points.


Group A


In Group A, Korea’s Junghun Bae advanced with 21 points, joined by Germany’s Paul Purps, who accumulated 16 points.


Group B


In Group B, New Zealand’s Ben Pettit advanced with 18 points. There was a tie between Sweden’s Carl Eklund and Japan’s Daiya Saito, both with 15 points. Eklund won the roll-off 246-212 to advance.


Girls' Singles Semi-finals


The Girls' Singles semifinals featured matches between Peru and Singapore, and Finland and the USA. Singapore’s Arianne Tay advanced by defeating Yuzuriha Seragaki from Peru 2-0 (228-211, 242-222). The other semifinal went to three games, with Finland’s Stella Lokfors defeating USA’s Annalise O’Bryant 2-1 (205-202, 198-202, 254-241).


Boy's Singles Semi-finals


In the Boys' Singles semifinals, it was Germany vs. New Zealand and Korea vs. Sweden. Germany’s Paul Purps advanced by defeating New Zealand’s Ben Pettit 2-0 (229-159, 231-152). The other semifinal went to three games, with Carl Eklund from Sweden defeating Korea’s Junghun Bae 2-1 (248-257, 279-247, 215-186).


The Singles finals in both categories will take place on July 18th, along with all other event finals.
