Robin Ilhammar of Sweden and Costa Rica's Elena Weinstok won gold at the 2024 IBF Youth World Cup in Lima, Peru.
Qualification and match-play rounds winner, Robin Ilhammar, clinched the gold medal in the Boy's division by defeating Germany's Zeno Janssen 2-0. Ilhammar's gold-winning performance was truly remarkable. He showcased perfection in the best-of-three final match, achieving a score of 300 in the first game and then scoring 233 against Janssen's 194 to secure the victory.
Lukas Jelinek of the Czech Republic secured the bronze medal by overcoming Megat Zaqrul Msiqal from Malaysia (224-223, 196-192).
In the Girl's division, Costa Rica's Elena Weinstok secured her gold medal by defeating USA's Jenna Stretch 2-0 in the finals. Jenna Stretch had earlier achieved a sensational victory against qualification and match-play round winner Nora Johansson in the quarterfinals and Colombia’s Sara Duque in the semis.
Sara Duque went on to win the bronze medal by defeating Singapore’s Ning Tay 2-0 (210-207, 225-212) in a hard-fought battle.
25 countries competed in this year's Youth World Cup - Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Germany, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Italy, Kuwait, Malaysia, México, Netherlands, Perú, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Romania, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United States, Uruguay and Wales.
The bowling Youth World Cup 2024 is not the sole global youth bowling event this year. The 2024 IBF Youth World Championships are scheduled to occur in Incheon, Korea, from July 7th to July 18th, 2024. The complete IBF event schedule can be found here.
