With the U.S. Open now behind us, the PBA Tour presses on with no time to rest. Next up is the PBA Owen’s Illinois Classic, running alongside the PBA Roth/Holman Doubles Championship. Both events will take place simultaneously in Vernon Hills, Illinois, from February 3rd to February 8th, with a PBA Tour title on the line.
Today, 55 bowlers battled it out in the pre-tournament qualifier (PTQ) for just six coveted spots in the main field, which kicks off tomorrow.
After seven grueling games, David Northouse, Frank Snodgrass, Jace Meyer, Seth Lehman, Thomas McNeal, and Will Clark secured their places among the 78 competitors vying for the third title of the season.
Last year, Marshall Kent captured his sixth PBA Tour title at the Illinois Classic. It was his first singles title since 2017, when he triumphed at the Grand Casino Hotel & Resort PBA Oklahoma Open. As the top seed, Kent delivered a clutch 214-180 victory over AJ Johnson, the Storm Lucky Larsen Masters champion, in a high-stakes final.
This year's PBA Roth/Holman Doubles Championship is being contested alongside the Illinois Classic. Andrew Anderson and Kris Prather, the defending champions, will look to retain their title.
After 18 games of qualifying on the Carmen Salvino oil pattern, the top 24 players will advance to bracket match play, with each matchup following a best-of-seven format. The four winners from the Round of 8 will move on to the stepladder finals, joined by the highest-seeded loser from that round.
The stepladder finals will air live on FS1 on Saturday, February 8th.
