The wait if finally over - the 10th anniversary Professional Women’s Bowling Association (PWBA) season has started. The first event of the season - PWBA Go Bowling Topeka Open - kicked off with a strong international presence during Thursday’s pre-tournament qualifier (PTQ) in Topeka, Kansas.
A total of eleven bowlers secured their place in the main field of the event, with Malaysia’s Gillian Lim putting on an impressive performance in her PWBA debut.
Lim, a right-hander representing the Malaysian national team, topped the PTQ standings with a six-game total of 1,330. She started with steady scores and found her rhythm quickly, rolling games of 221, 201, 249, 219, 241, and 199, averaging over 223, and earning her a well-deserved spot in the main event.
Just behind her was her national team teammate Natasha Roslan, who posted a total of 1,326 to finish second. Sweden’s Nora Johansson took third with 1,310, followed by Singapore’s Arianne Tay (1,290) and Puerto Rico’s Estefania Cobo (1,287) to round out the top five.
The remaining bowlers who advanced include Peppi Konsteri of Finland (1,278), Sweden’s Anna Andersson (1,261), Brooke Roberts of Florida (1,250), Anna Antony of Connecticut (1,248), Canada’s Sarah Klassen (1,243), and Wichita local Madison Janack (1,224).
With the PTQ complete, the main field of 75 players is set. Competition resumes Friday with the first of two six-game qualifying rounds. After 12 games, the top third of the field will advance to a third qualifying round on Saturday morning. The top 12 after 18 total games will then bowl a final six-game block to determine the five players who will compete in Saturday night’s stepladder finals.
