After a battle for the Singles gold in Men's and Women's events, the competition at the European Senior Bowling Championships 2025 shifted focus to the Doubles. Today, Men's duets stood in a fight for yet another set of medals in Leipzig.
The Swedish national team keep showing their power and dominance this year. Peter Hellström, who already claimed the European Championship gold medal in singles, continued to showcase his skill alongside partner Martin Paulsson. The duo dominated Doubles qualification, finishing first with an impressive score of 2754. Adding to Sweden's success, Johan Åberg and Magnus Lindqvist secured third place, ensuring both Swedish Men's Doubles secure medals for their country.
Germany also made the semis, as Bodo Koniecny and Michael Krämer, who previously earned medals in the singles competition, demonstrated their consistency by claiming second place in the qualification with a score of 2677.
The Netherlands also made the semifinals, with Ron Van Den Bogaard and Wim Van Der Veen grabbing the fourth and final qualifying spot with 2560.
Even though the Netherlands claimed the final spot in the semifinals, they appeared to save their best performance for the decisive matches. In the semifinals, the Dutch team unexpectedly defeated the favorites, Peter Hellström and Martin Paulsson, in an incredibly close battle that ended 394-392.
In the finals, the Netherlands, led by Wim Van Der Veen—who scored 254, defeated another Swedish pair, Johan Åberg and Magnus Lindqvist with the final score 467-372. Earlier in the semifinals, Åberg and Lindqvist had edged past Germany's Bodo Koniecny and Michael Krämer in another tightly contested match, finishing 385-377.
The Women's Doubles competition kicks off tomorrow.
