The IBF World Cup 2025 began in Hong Kong with Singles Qualifying action featuring men’s Groups A and C, and all four groups for women. The day delivered intense competition, with players battling it out in a round-robin format. Each victory awarded three points, and after six games in the Men’s division and seven in the Women’s, the leaders emerged from a field of world-class talent.
Men’s Division Highlights
Group A1: Hong Kong’s Wu Siu Hong and USA’s Kris Prather tied at the top with 15 points each.
Group A2: Puerto Rico’s David Marquez led with 18 points, followed by Singapore’s Jomond Chia with 15.
Group C1: USA’s Matt Russo claimed the lead with 18 points.
Group C2: India’s Ramachandraiah Kishan also scored 18 points to secure first place with only 178.7 avg.
The men’s competition showcased thrilling performances, with tight standings in several groups hinting at fierce battles in upcoming rounds.

Women’s Division Highlights
Group A: Malaysia’s Siti Safiyah and USA’s Lauren Russo shared the lead with 18 points.
Group B: Australia’s Samantha Clifton secured first with 18 points.
Group C: Five players tied for first with 15 points each, including Birgit Noreiks (Germany), Natasha Roslan (Malaysia), Shannon Pluhowsky (USA), Bernice Lim (Singapore), and Jenny Wegner (Sweden).
Group D: Sweden’s Victoria Johansson dominated with 18 points, while Sin Li Jane of Malaysia followed closely with 15.
The women’s groups saw particularly close competition, with Group C’s five-way tie a testament to the depth of talent.

Looking Ahead
The Singles Qualifying continues tomorrow with men’s Groups B and D, alongside further action from all four women’s groups. Players will aim to maintain their momentum or climb the standings as the race for the elimination rounds heats up.
The top four men from each group, after completing 13 matches over two days, will progress to the Top 32 knockout stage. For the women, the top eight from each group will advance, determined after 13 matches as well.
