
On Wednesday at the Fiesta Bowling Center in Incheon, Korea, two Mixed Team (two girls and two boys) qualification squads and match-play round took place for the 2024 World Youth Championships.
Sixteen top teams advanced to the match-play round after ten qualification games in the Baker format.
Czech Republic dominated both qualification squads, earning top seeds in the match play with 2212 and 2168 totals. Team Malaysia earned the third position with 2165, Finland ended in fourth with 2155 total, while Korea rounded out the top five with 2151 total pinfall.
Alongside both Czech teams and Finland, five more teams from Europe advanced to the match-play round. Norway finished in seventh, both Sweden teams advanced as eighth and eleventh seeds, Germany earned the twelfth seed, while another FInland's team finished in fifteenth.
In the match-play rounds, the qualifiers were divided into two groups of eight. They engaged in seven round-robin matches, with each win earning 3 points and a draw earning 1 point. The top two pairs from each group advanced to the semi-finals based on their accumulated points.
In Group A, the Czech Republic earned the top seed and advanced to the semifinals by winning five out of seven matches and collecting 15 points. The second advancing team in Group A was determined after a tie-breaker between Korea and the United States. In the roll-off, Korea prevailed, winning 202-176 to advance to the semifinals.
In Group B, the two semifinalists were decided after a three-way tie-breaker between Malaysia, Sweden, and the United States, who all collected 15 points in the match-play. In the roll-off, Malaysia and Sweden advanced by scoring 256 and 247, respectively, while the United States scored 216.
