Sweden Tops Trios Qualifiers After First 3 Games at EWC 2024

The two-day competition in the Doubles category of the European Women Bowling Championships 2024 is heating up. Today, 33 pairs competed in a three-game qualification round, all striving to score as high as possible to gain an advantage before tomorrow's last three games in the Trios qualifiers.


In Squad 1, spectators witnessed exceptionally high scores. Germany's trio of Franziska Chech (740 pins), Janin Ribguth (626 pins), and Sabrina Laub (571 pins) achieved a total pinfall of 1937 (an average of 215.2) to win the squad. Just four pins behind them was Finland's trio of Ani Juntunen (702 pins), Peppi Konsteri (653 pins), and Eliisa Hiltunen (578 pins), who scored 1933 (an average of 214.8) to finish in second place. Denmark's Mika Glud Guldbæk (710 pins), Cecilie J. M Dam (598 pins), and Megan Gales Dicay (592 pins) scored a total pinfall of 1900 (an average of 211.1) to end in third, while Sweden's trio of Hanna Engberg (664 pins), Anna Andersson (621 pins), and Sandra De Neergaard (604 pins) finished fourth.


In Squad 2, only one trio managed to score high enough to break into the top four after the first day of qualification. Sweden's Nora Johansson, the Singles Event champion (762 pins), along with Jenny Wegner (603 pins) and Josefin Hermansson (602 pins), scored 1967 total (an average of 218.6) to take first place overall halfway through the Trios qualification. Finland's Essi Pakarinen (658 pins), Jenni Heino (649 pins), and Sanna Oksanen (577 pins) scored a total of 1884 pins (an average of 209.3) to finish second in Squad 2, currently placing them sixth overall. Denmark's Maria Bak Gerding (666 pins), Camilla Keller (608 pins), and Sofie Kowalewski Rasmussen (602 pins) scored 1876 total (an average of 208.4) to take third place in Squad 2 and seventh place in the overall standings. Samantha Greiner (637 pins), Melissa Sorber (602 pins), and Beejee Westerdijk (599 pins) scored 1838 pins (an average of 204.2) to finish fourth in Squad 2 and ninth overall.


Everything can change tomorrow after another three games in the EWC 2024 Trios qualifiers.
