On Sunday, at the Fiesta Bowling Center in Incheon, Korea, the top 16 doubles competed in the match-play round of the 2024 World Youth Championships in the Girls' Doubles event.
2024 World Youth Championships Girls' Doubles Match-Play Round Overview
In the match-play rounds, the qualifiers were divided into two groups of eight. They engaged in seven round-robin matches, where each win earned 3 points, and a draw netted 1 point. The top two pairs from each group advanced to the semi-finals based on their accumulated points.
Group A: Korea's Perfect Record
In Group A, Korea's Yeyoung Kang and Daeun Lee won all seven round-robin matches to earn the top place in the group with 21 points. The Singaporean duo of Arianne Tay and Colleen Pee took second place with 15 points, winning five out of seven round-robin matches. This will be Tay's second 2024 World Youth Championships semi-finals appearance. The Singaporean bowling talent also made it to the Singles event finals earlier this week.
Group B: Four-way Roll-Off Drama
In Group B, after seven round-robin matches, only Maja Engberg and Nora Johansson from Sweden could calmly wait for the semi-finals, as four other duos—USA, Finland, Japan, and Colombia—stood in a roll-off battle. All four teams finished with 12 points by winning 4 out of 7 matches. In the roll-off, Team USA's duo Katelyn Abigania and Annalise O'Bryant shone when it mattered most. The American duo scored 258 to outscore their closest opponents from Finland by more than 70 pins to advance to the semi-finals.
Upcoming Semi-Finals and Boys' Singles Schedule
The Girls' Doubles semi-finals will commence tomorrow at 8:00 AM CET, along with the Boys' Doubles semi-finals. The Boys' match-play round is currently underway.
