Dutch bowler Mathijs Beverdam took home the title at the 33rd Malta Open, capping off a week of high-level competition with a 214–166 win in the final match against Malta’s own Mauro Anastasi.
Anastasi, who bowled through a hip injury, fought hard in front of his home crowd but couldn’t keep up with Beverdam’s steady pace in the final. Still, his performance earned plenty of respect from those watching in Eden Superbowl and online.
Italy’s Andrea Mangiacotti rounded out the podium in third place, while France’s Quentin Deroo finished fourth after a strong run through the knockout rounds.
The tournament, held from June 2 to 8 at Eden Superbowl in St. Julian’s, once again brought together top talent from all over Europe. Tournament prize fund was over 23,000 euros.
