The two-day competition in the Doubles category of the European Women Bowling Championships 2024 is heating up. Today, 35 pairs competed in a six-game qualification round, all trying to be among the top four who will move on to the semifinals tomorrow.
In Squad 1, Sweden's Nora Johansson, the Singles Event champion, and Josefin Hermansson, the bronze medalist, took an early lead. They scored a total of 2620 pins, with an average of 218.3. Their score held strong, remaining unbeaten in Squad 2.
Denmark's Megan Gales Dicay and Camilla Keller secured second place in Squad 1 with a total score of 2537 (211.4 average). The Danish team is currently ranked third in the overall standings.
Emma Friant and Marie Matczak took third place in Squad 1 with a pinfall of 2523 (210.2 average). This score was just enough to keep their semifinal hopes alive, placing them in fourth position overall.
England's Hannah Ailes and Rachel Cox finished fourth in Squad 1 with a pinfall of 2449 (204.1 average). However, this wasn't enough to stay in the top four overall, as they are now in ninth position after two qualification squads.
In Squad 2 of the EWC 2024, only one duo made it into the overall top 4. Finland's Jenni Heino and Eliisa Hiltunen excelled with a total score of 2555 (average 212.9), placing them second overall in the Doubles event standings.
Zuzana Kvasničková and Ema Iwazawa from the Czech Republic scored 2518 total (209.8 average) to finish second in Squad 2 and fifth overall in the Doubles standings.
Alexandra Lopes D'Andrade and Laura Garcia of France scored 2489 (207.4 average), placing them third in the squad and sixth overall, while Janin Ribguth and Nadine Meier scored 2478 (206.5 average), putting them in fourth place in the squad and seventh overall.
