After day two at the European Championship of Champions 2024, all 75 competitors from 37 countries have completed their first block of 8 games at the Bowling National Center in Bratislava, Slovakia. The new day brought fresh excitement, as new leaders emerged in both the women's and men's categories.
In today’s opening round of 8 games, the men took to the lanes, with Denmark's Dan Agerbo Østergaard delivering a standout performance, setting the current high score with a total of 1,882 pins (235.25 avg.). Østergaard also bowled the competition’s first perfect game in the second round. Defending ECC champion, Finland's Tomas Käyhkö, secured second place with a total of 1,788 pins (233.5 avg.). Austria's Fabian Groß rounded out the top three with 1,752 pins (219 avg.).
In the women's category, Ireland's Hannah Masterson posted a total of 1,753 pins (219.1 avg.), not only winning Block 1 in Group B but also taking the overall lead in the women’s competition. Denmark's Camilla Keller followed in second with 1,704 pins (213 avg.), while Sweden's Jenny Wegner finished third with 1,675 pins (209.37 avg.).
The results from Block 1 determined the seeding for the Mixed Doubles competition, deciding which representatives from each country will play tomorrow. Both male and female athletes from each country will compete together on the lanes. Pairs ranked 13-24 will begin tomorrow's competition in Squad 1 with another 8-game block, followed by pairs ranked 1-12. Mixed Doubles teams seeded 25-34 will conclude tomorrow's competition in Squad 3.
In total, ECC 2024 will feature four 8-game blocks, played from October 21st to 25th, to determine the top 12 advancers in both the men's and women's categories.
After the qualification rounds, the top 12 bowlers in each category will play another 8-game block to determine the semifinalists. During the semifinals and finals, match play will follow a best-of-three format to crown this year's champions.
